"Formal education will make you a living; Self education will make you a fortune" - Jim Rohn

If you have been 18 years old, fresh graduate, willing to continue your studies to a higher education, you definitely were wondering what and where to study and how to get there, unless you were one of the few lucky ones who knew what you want to do with your life since you were 5.

On the other hand, may be now is the right time for you to make these decisions and that is this article about. I will try to give you some tips and hints on decision making, planning and working on your career path. I have been on your place, I had to do the same and I had to make these choices for good or bad, luckily, I do not regret anything of what I have done but sometimes Im wondering what if. What if I have not chosen this university, what if I studied something else, what if I traveled more, what if I was more active in some student organization, what if?

Don't be afraid to ask and listen what successful people do

Sign up for personal updatesLet me tell you a little bit more about me, I have a Bachelor degree in Management from University of Economics - Varna, Bulgaria. During my studies I spent one semester as an Erasmus student in Antwerp, Belgium and besides that in my last year in the university, I joined one of the biggest student organizations where I worked actively for 10 months. If you look at the facts nothing so special happened, but what mattered to me were the contacts I made during these years. I surrounded myself with successful people, who have good jobs, people who travel a lot and know how to get better in what they do. I started to listen to those people and learn from them. One of my friends, who by the way is very successful professional used to tell me Nicky, planning is the key, decide where do you want to be in 20 years time, what do you want to be, where do you want to live and how much money do you want to make, then find people who did it and ask them how they have done it! He was right, people love to talk about themselves and if you ask them how they achieved their success, they will most probably tell you. So lesson one: dont be afraid to ask and listen what successful people do!

Imagine what your dream job could be

Are you good in maths, are you interested in history, do you want to work with people or with machines? Answering these questions you can define which professional direction you want to take, as it is essential to get this right. Lesson number two: do not do anything you dont like! First of all you have to be sure that you want to invest the time and the money to study something you like, otherwise you better quit. When you know the field you want to grow in, let yourself dream for a while, imagine what would be your dream job, what do you want to do after 20 years, then you will know what subject to choose. It is important to set a goal you want to achieve and it has to be SMART. I know it sounds too easy, but life is easy just people like to make it complicated. Making the first decision, we can move to the next one: what university to choose? This is easier, as if you know what you want to do, find the best universities in this field, go to the high ranged and credited universities. As we all know those are the expensive ones also are not so easy to get in but think about it for a minute. If you plan, you can get a student loan, which you have to pay after your graduation and meanwhile you will be able to study in high rated university, network and start working on getting a good job in the future.

To sum it up, plan and network are the key words when talking about successful career and the best time to start doing that is now!
